 have stated, for a many
months, that one of our biggest threats from terrorism would be our food
supply. The meat industry went to hell in a hand basket some years ago.
Remember when meat used to smell good as it cooked? Or when you could shop for
the meat once a week and it stayed good and fresh? Now it goes bad in,
sometimes, 24 hours and smells like highway pizza as it cooks
This morning (26 October 2001) the government says our
food--fruits, vegetables and cattle-- are at risk from terrorism.
I have started an
Emergency Living page, which has a link to Thanksgiving, which features a
menu for Thanksgiving dinner using food from your home storage. There is a link
to more recipes that has a recipe for
Chocolate Chunk Cookies using
oat flour you whiz in your blender from oats in your storage. Build your own
Safety Kit here.
I intend to expand the recipe and storage sections.
There will soon be a garden page and how to harvest and store your own seeds.
Soil building and food preservation will be featured. Season recipes will
reflect my belief that fruits and vegetables coming from other countries in the
winter do not have a strict enough inspection. I have wondered if insecticides
such as DDT, which has been banned in our country for years, and other chemicals
are not controlled in regulation with United States guidelines. Resource links
will be included for all aspects of living in these new times.
Please write to me if
you can help with suggestions, recipes, tips or whatever you think should be
included.
